From This Day Forward, which had its premiere at the OSO Barnes in July 2023, has now been published by Stagescripts.
Tom Most people didn’t bother to vote, of course. The whole thing seemed idiotic. But there was a special interest group that felt the institution of marriage was being marginalised and that something needed to be done about it. They mobilised their support very effectively and no one took the trouble to oppose them. The result of the vote came as a complete surprise to everyone and then, before anyone knew exactly what was happening, a swathe of hasty, ill-conceived legislation had found its way onto the statute books, and there it’s stayed. Does that answer your question?
Annie Can the rules be changed?
Tom In principle, they can, but public lethargy means it’s easier to accept things as they are than to go to the effort of trying to find better solutions.
