My (very) short post-colonial story, Uhuru, was published on the 50-Word Stories website on 14th March.
UHURU
“Died in Tanganyika,” she said, pouring herself another chotapeg. “Mauled to death by a lioness. He continued to call the country Tanganyika. Never Tanzania. Nonsensical native concoction, he used to say. He’d insulted his bearer. He frequently insulted people. The shotgun the bearer handed him hadn’t been loaded.”
